Wow! This is fantastic. Thank you so much, Mariusz. Funny enough, I'm in Pittsburgh, PA, USA right now, and just yesterday I was talking to a woman from Poland. When she saw my name, she said, "Madej! That's a great Polish name!" She pronounced it MAH-day, of course.

hi,

I found for you a story about villain (equivalent to polish "zbój") Madej. (maybe more correct instead of villain is polish are these:
ZBÓJ
BRIGAND
ZBÓJ
ROBBER
ZBÓJ
RUFFIAN
ZBÓJ
BANDIT
ZBÓJ
HIGHWAYMAN)

Here you can find it.
http://czytelnia.onet.pl/0,1194448,1,do_czytania.html
Shortly said, it's a bit different. There was a small boy, who wanted to go to hell. Once he lost in huge forest, found a "hut; cottage; shack; cabin." (a house of Madej) Madej's wife was afraid the cruel ruffian may kill the small boy, so she has hidden him. Unfortunately, Madej came back and found the boy. He asked the boy what he's doing here , the boy told he's going to hell to take his "pact; pledge." The pact was given to the devil by boy's father: once the father was lost in some swamp/marsh, someone appeared and offered help (apparently it was devil) , but the father had to promise that he'll give him sth what is new at home" They signed the pact and when father came back, it appeared there was a boy born.

So the boy was going to hell to get back the pact.

Hearing the boys story, Madej mused a while, and told the boy he'll leave the boy alive, if he checks, what is prepared in hell for him.
The boy went to hell, but some devil didn't want to give him his pact, so the boy went to devils king (belsebub) The devils king told the devil if he didn't give a pact to the boy, he would go to be tortured no "Madejowe loze" (a special bed prepared for Madej - very, very cruel one;) Devil looked at that bed and it quickly gave the pact.
The boy got his pact. Boy got back to Madej and told him the truth. Madej got scared and he promised not to robb/kill anyone - in order not to get to hell. Additionally, he told he won't be moving from this place unless the boy comes back.
Time was flying and a boy (who became a bishop) was travelling through the same forest, and saw an old guy with a grey beard - this was Madej. And then Madej finally confessed his sins - so hopefully he didn't go to hell;)))

so Madej is not that bad, anyway;-)))

Just catching up on your blog now - I hope your health issues resolve soon! I think it is really brave and clearheaded to be able to scrap the original plan if it is not serving you, and chart a new path that will make you happier. I've enjoyed following your adventures so far and will continue to enjoy following along whether you are exploring Istanbul or the Pancake House. :) If your time back in the U.S. brings you down DC-way, we would love to see you guys!!

But where else can you get a shave with a straight razor from a blind man on the street like Michael Palin did? Just make India wait. Sooner or later they'll beg you to use the Taj Mahal as your personal grown-up-hostel.

Hey, Seth,
It's good of you to turn your travails into comedy for the rest of us. A good laugh is welcome here where we're snowed in in Washington DC. Sounds like you're snowed under with bureaucratic mumbledypeg. Hope you have a good monkey-shit shield.

I don't believe a word of this! You guys were just lonesome for some snow and that's why you are still in Pittsburgh. In any case, if you have health questions, home is the place to be. Take care.
